Hi again, and welcome to another J-artist themed week.
Note: This week's post was meant to be last week's post, but I switched it around for my own aesthetic's sake. Anyways, back to the post.
This week, I will be looking at the band Sound Horizon [abbreviated by fans as Sanhora (サンホラ)], and will start off with their 6th (and 2nd recent) album, Moira.
As a short note, I will be focusing on the group's singles and albums and will thus feature a couple of songs from each.
Let's begin with an epic one:-
Song: 奴隷達の英雄 – Ελευσευς by Sound Horizon
Doreitachi no Eiyū [The Hero of Slaves] - Eleuseus by Sound Horizon
A bit of background about the band. This band started out as an almost one-man doujin group, heralded by Revo. After years, it has now transformed into a 'fantasy band', and they are mainly known for telling stories through their songs, as well as having a very great style. More information about the band on the common wiki site or from a comprehensive fan site.
For this blog, as mentioned above, I shall be reviewing the band on a single/album basis (and picking a couple of songs from each), so whatever 'story' inside the album will definitely be loss [even I don't know all the stories for each]. For the Moira album (released Sept 2008), it has a Greek motif and mythology to it, and therefore the titles include a greek word in it, though I have no translation for it. Also, English/translated lyrics are a bit hard to come by (since the lyrics itself is so intricate) overall, so I'll give it out as much as I can find.
Anyways, moving on to additional stuffs and other songs:-
[A concert performance. An alternate one can be viewed here.]
[A VOCALOID-cover by KAITO and Luka. Alternate one by REN and Gakupo is here.]
[A great Code Geass MAD.]
[A nice piano cover. It makes me appreciate the melody within the song more.]
It truly has an epic story feel to it, doesn't it?
The 2nd song I wanna show-case takes on a more different tone. A more, well.. the title speaks for itself.
Song: 死せる者達の物語 – Ιστορια by Sound Horizon
Shiseru Monotachi no Monogatari [The story of the Dying Ones] - Istoria by Sound Horizon
[A live concert performance]
[Enjoy some hand-drawn PV. Couple others of similar nature found here and here.]
[A nico-collaboration between 2 singers. Not the best, but interesting in it's own right]
[An awesome MAD for Code Geass that really fits the story of the song. Spoiler heavy]
[A similarly great MAD for Dissidia Final Fantasy]
Finally, a 3rd song (along with all the vids) that I wanna cover from the same album here is:-
Song: 死せる英雄達の戦い – Ηρωμαχια by Sound Horizon
Shiseru Eiyūtachi no Tatakai [Battle of the Dying Heroes] - Iromachia by Sound Horizon
[Concert performance.]
[A piano cover of the song. An alternate version (with more views) can be seen below. Also included here is a drum cover and a guitar cover.]
No Code Geass MAD for this (eventhough there is great material for it), so let's end the post here.
The album tells a great tale, and therefore the songs are fantastic. Do listen to the whole album (google is your friend) where possible.
Until the next time, ciaoz
Note: My enjoyment of the album was further compounded after watching the 'concert' (which also acts as a stage performance/musical/show (whatever you call it) for all intents and purposes), so do watch that as well.
